Music Monday remembers John Lennon

This past week marked 37 years since John Lennon died Dec. 8, 1980. I often think about what more he could have done if he were still here.

It’s a sad thought, tempered only by the enormous contribution he left behind.

His bestselling and most popular solo song, “Imagine” is packed with simple but powerful lyrics. Its message is as relevant today as it ever was.

I hope you enjoy this timeless song,

“Imagine there’s no heaven
It’s easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today… Aha-ah…

Imagine there’s no countries
It isn’t hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion, too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace… You…

You may say I’m a dreamer
But I’m not the only one
I hope someday you’ll join us
And the world will be as one …”

  3. Hello, Eden! Letizia sent me. I am hosting a blog party, and she thought I would enjoy stopping by and reading your blog. šŸ™‚

I remember the day he died. My father was absolutely distraught. I asked him why he was so sad. He played me some records and explained who John Lennon was. What a terrible loss. I think you’re right–he is someone who would have continued to make a valuable impact on the world. Thank you for helping us remember a wonderful soul.

    • Kate, so lovely to meet you, and really sweet of Letizia to send you my way. I remember the day John Lennon died too. My first exposure to Beatles music was around age 6 on a reel to reel. Their music was sung by Alvin and Chipmunks! By the time he died, I was a fan of the Beatles even if I was buried under the disco age.

Huge loss, and remembering Lennon’s tremendous contribution to the world brings some solace.
