Music Monday heats up with @ArethaFranklin

The “Queen of Soul,” Aretha Franklin turned 75 this past weekend. Her last album, Aretha Franklin Sings the Great Diva Classics released in 2014 and features hits from singers Adele, Alicia Keys, and others.

Though I like Aretha’s rendition of these songs, I much prefer the ones she popularized — “Respect,” in particular.

It’s a simple thing, but it means a lot when we deal with people.

We want and expect it. We should treat others with it.

Certainly in today’s tumultuous climate, we can all use more of it.

Enjoy, and have a great week.

  1. Had the privilege of seeing the Queen in concert here a couple of summers ago. Her music got this crusty old man’s eyes misty.

  2. I agree that we could all use more respect – it’ll make things a lot better.

I remember watching the video of her singing You Make Me Feel Like A Natural Woman at the Kennedy Center for Carole King and it was electrifying.

Love it! It’s great that you are profiling these classics! I always love stories of “seniors” who remind us to keep rocking! I wasn’t aware of her more recent work – so will have to look into that! xo
