“Sleep Eludes Me”

It’s December, the month of pressure—too much to do, too little time. I wrote this poem after a sleepless night.

“Sleep Eludes Me”

Lustful thoughts
Swirl inside my head
Like a gang swarms its victim
Circling
Before an attack

I lie in bed
Waiting to be still
But my mind races forward
Changing scenes
Like frames in a film

My body yearns for rest
A voice cries out “No!”
It steals my attention
Demanding gratification
Carnal satisfaction

I interrupt your dreams
Massage you awake
Hold you firmly in my hand
Quietly
I climb on top and lock you in

I’ll be your mystery lover
Your fantasy girl
Let me ride you
To satisfy me
No need to open your eyes

  1. Eden,

I love your poem. I can see you transitioning from the portrayal of raw sex to the sensual. It is a beautiful transition 🙂

  3. Sleep eludes me too, Eden, mostly bore out of demands of being a writer 🙂 – Your poem gave me an idea – Perhaps I should try and fantasise more – I do have fabulous dreams when I eventually get there 🙂

    Beautiful poem!

As always your writing captures the moment perfectly. I’m jealous of your sleeping character as well, been far too long since I’ve been used in such a blissful way.

The third stanza establishes the sensuality. This is so sexy and well worded.

    Liked it a lot.

  9. Your poem has a lovely combination of metaphor and straight sensual talking. It is also arousing and evocative of those moments every one of us can feel in that place between waking and sleep; the same place from which poets find poems – I know I do (if you can get up and write the words down before they slip away with your semi-conscious memory; or unless the other urge proves the greater draw on your attentions!). Perhaps sex is the easier outpouring, if your partner can be persuaded to cooperate; no contest you might say! But sometimes the words can be so compelling and have to be written down – oh what dilemma! I think the words in your poem were worth that effort, in consequence of which you will probably be able to have your cake and eat it.

    • John, I love how you paint that moment between waking and sleep. I know it well and have conjured up creative thoughts during those times, though they are fleeting at best. The most I can hope for is to recapture the feeling of it when I am fully conscious.
It’s always wonderful to have a real poet comment on my meagre poetic offerings. Thank you.

  12. I came to this site from a link in the article http://poetjanstie.blogspot.com/2012/01/writing-poetry-unique-perspective.html?spref=tw

This poem is so well written! From the first stanza:
    “Lustful thoughts
    Swirl inside my head
Like a gang swarms its victim
    Circling
    Before an attack.”

Oooh I love that image! And the contrast of

    “Waiting to be still
    But my mind races forward…”

And all of that before getting to the sensual …
All I know is, I want a girl like you! *grin*

“Hold you firmly in my hand
    Quietly
I climb on top and lock you in

    I’ll be your mystery lover
    Your fantasy girl
    Let me ride you
    To satisfy me…”

THIS IS AN AWESOME WRITE. I’m following you IMMEDIATELY. 🙂

  14. Very nice poem. I was lost, while reading every line of it, in the storm of its embrace, seeking to hold that “persona” in any way I could to feel the warmth of her touch in what seemed a savage gesture. She belongs to me: the spell she wove about me enmeshed me like a spider’s web. I could tell from the way our fiery lips met; the way our two bodies interweave, so tightly locked up in the rising heat of the struggle. How sweet of her to love; how tangible her skin as soft as the dove’s feathers dipped in cream…pleasantness surging back into my face and up to what no words could define, knocking at the frontiers of my chained soul.
