It’s a mantra that is fitting as I mark my final words here for the year. For reasons that include lack of sleep, an over-active mind, and too much socializing, I’ve felt slightly melancholy over the past few days. I am, however, not sad; I am grateful.
This year has marked three important milestones in my life, all of which have helped me to arrive at where I am today.
(1) I voluntarily quit my job after two decades with the same company. Banking was financially rewarding, but it bankrupted me creatively.
(2) I’ve been cancer-free now for ten years—a fucking decade of good health—worth the expletive, don’t you think?
(3) I recreated myself by taking my passion seriously. I now call myself a writer… and I actually believe it. My book comes out in a few weeks.
May 2011 bring you health, laughter, and boundless joy.
And for my writer friends, may it bring you one more thing—success, however you choose to define it.
