FALL INTO WINTER is now sold as 4 separate ebooks

A short time ago, I met with NYU professor and Forbes writer, David Vinjamuri. I wrote about it in my post here.  We talked marketing strategy, and I’m finally putting his advice into practise.

My book, Fall into Winter has been on the market since February 2011. It contains four distinct novellas and is the size of a novel at 60K words. It has sold well, but not as well as I’d like. I packaged the book this way because I wanted a print version; it only made sense to do it if there was enough material.

Fall into Winter

So what’s changing?

Nothing as far as Fall into Winter is concerned, but I’m adding 4 new books to the marketplace. I’ve stripped out each novella to be sold separately as ebooks.

Each will be offered at $2.99, or you can still buy Fall into Winter at $4.99.

The math is simple. It’s easier for readers to part with $2.99 than $4.99, but the better value is of course to buy the whole book. ;)

Below are the four new covers designed by JBGraphics. You can follow him on Twitter @jbgraphix.

Buy links:  Amazon US | Amazon UK

If you love how the covers tell a story, I know you’ll enjoy my writing. I’ve included a summary of each book as well.

Your opinion of the strategy, covers, pricing, etc. is welcome. Feedback is always appreciated,

Grateful,

eden

My First Book Club Meet was Oh SO SWEET

I’m still in NYC right now, but this post is about something that happened just before I got here. I was invited to be the guest of honor at a book club—my first! And you know you never forget your first.

The meeting was to discuss Fall into Winter – my debut anthology of erotic novellas.

Sweet right? Damn right it was.

S.W.E.E.T also happens to be the name of this unique book club, which stands for: Sophisticated Women Exploring Erotic Texts.

I love sophisticated women. I love exploring, and I definitely love erotic texts. I knew this would be my type of club.

I arrived at 7:30 in the evening, and the majority of women were already gathered at the meeting place—a beautiful home in North Toronto.  The club was made up of professional women in their twenties and thirties. It was their third meeting, after having read  Fifty Shades of Gray and Bared to You.

There was food and wine and dessert, and … there was an agenda.  Holy god, these women were serious. They came prepared with overall impressions, suggestions, likes and dislikes. Their questions were specific.

Animated, lively, at times vulgar and hilarious, we discussed favorite stories, specific scenes, and male characters. We even talked about synonyms because they liked my word choices. This was a great compliment as I’m a logophile and words are important to me. I’ve written about their impact in a previous post called “It’s Only Words … or is it?”

For erotic writing, however, I rely on several aids, and one I particularly like is The Bald-Headed Hermit and the Artichoke. It’s an erotic thesaurus with a sense of humor. There are more synonyms to describe the penis than any other word in the English language, but a  “steamin’ semen truck” or “purple headed yogurt slinger”? Not exactly erotic, is it? I promise you’ll never find those terms in my books!

A large part of the discussion centered around my story “Act Three” and its controversial scene. From there, we talked about rape fantasies, fear, and how writers push the envelope of what is erotic.

One of the biggest compliments I received was their thoughts on my female leads. They considered the women smart and intelligent unlike the leads in the previous two books they had read. For me, this was extremely flattering considering my demographic is more of the 30-40 age group. It was so encouraging to meet women who identified with themselves in my stories.

FACT: I don’t write for stupid women so you won’t find them in my books.

The evening ended close to midnight, and I had to get up in seven hours to catch a plane. It was wonderful to hang out with open-minded women who talk about sex, sexuality, and their love of good writing. No, I don’t consider these women open-minded just because they read erotica. They are open-minded. Period. Because of that, they’ve taken to exploring this in their books.

I want to thank the beautiful women of SWEET for their praise, charm, and humor.

A special thanks to O, the gracious host, for making my first book club meet such a sweet experience.

eden

Three Reviews for Spring into Summer

Spring into Summer was reviewed by three excellent sites this past week.

 * * * *

Wendy Hines from Minding Spot said:

” … If you’ve been wanting to try erotica, but have been holding back for whatever reason, Eden Baylee is the place to start! “

Read the full review here and comment to win a copy of either of my books. Contest ends Oct. 18th.

Diantha Jones, a reviewer for the Masqerade Crew said:

” … Spring into Summer was a great read and I recommend it to romance lovers who aren’t afraid to let Baylee access their more raw side.”

Read the full review here.

From Niina C of For the Love of Reading Reviews, I received a two-star review. That doesn’t sound too good, but I believe an author should always want honesty when he/she asks for a review. Despite the low number of stars, Niina’s words impressed me. She said:

“I really wanted to like Spring into Summer, the blurb was beautiful and the stories seemed interesting at first glance. So why didn’t I like it? …”

Planning by the Seat of My Pants

Those who know me well, know I’m not much of a planner, but somehow I get things done … by the seat of my pants, so to speak.

Since the e-book release of Spring into Summer July 9th, I’ve been busy with marketing the book, writing over thirty unique guest blogs and participating in almost as many interviews.

Read the Thank You posts to see the wonderful people who’ve offered their support … so far.

Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3 | Part 4 | Part 5Part 6

As I continue writing and promoting, I wanted to take a breather and share some other news with you.

Spring into Summer Available in Print

The paperback is now available. The design of the cover and the interior is by the award-winning JB Graphics—who also did my first book. He does amazing work, and I LOVE it.

Check out his website, and connect to him on Twitter @JBGraphix.

I’d also like to extend my sincerest thanks to acclaimed poet Steven Marty Grant, author of Another Hotel Room who did me the honor of reviewing my book. His wonderful words can be found on the back cover, and you can read them here too.

Look for Steven’s new book, Chasing Moriarty coming soon, and connect to him on Twitter @StevenMGrant.

Fall into Winter re-published

I’ve republished the e-book of my first anthology, Fall into Winter. The main reason for doing this was to regain full control of the book, originally done by a third party.

The downside is I will lose all the reviews and “Likes” I’ve acquired to date on Amazon. As a temporary remedy, I’ve added the reviews to my blog here. Over time, I hope to get them reinstated to the new version of my book.

Feel free to like and tag me again on my Amazon page. It’s much appreciated. ;)

*** UPDATE Sept 25th ***  I found out from friend and author, David T. Lender that my reviews can be transferred from the old version to the new. WHEEE! That’s in the process of happening now. Thanks David!

*   *   *   *

The SECOND e-book edition of Fall into Winter can be purchased at:

Amazon US | Amazon UK  | Smashwords

I’m in the process of republishing the print version as well, however you can still buy it through specific sites listed here until further notice.

E-book of Flash Fiction and Poetry

This, yet to be titled collection, will be a compilation of stories and poems I’ve written for my blog, along with some new ones. I thought it’d be a good idea to offer them in an anthology to increase readership.

This e-book will be available by yearend.

New Website and Blog

I’ve been working with JB Graphics to create a new website. I haven’t made many changes to my site since its inception, and it’s time for a makeover.

Look for a reveal sometime later this year.

Upcoming Novel

I’m researching my new book right now, and it’s moving along—slowly but surely. It’s a mix of John Fowles/Charles Bukowski/Haruki Murakami and a dash of Pauline Réage thrown in for good measure. The full-length novel is a new animal for me since I’m used to writing short stories, so I’m feeling challenged—it’s a good thing.

As for a release date? 2013 is the goal, but don’t push me for anything more specific than that.

I’m  planning by the seat of my pants, remember? ;)

That’s all the news I have for now. I’ll update as I learn more.

Your comments—good, bad, or otherwise are always welcome, and thanks so much for the continued support.

I’m Featured as part of May Movers and Shakers

I’m a huge fan of author, Suzannah Burke whom I interviewed last year. I also wrote for her site, Soooz Says Stuff as part of “The Relevance of Sex in Literature in 2011” series.

I haven’t done any promotion for my book, Fall into Winter in a while, so it was both gracious and serendipitous of Soooz to offer me a spot on her site for May Movers and Shakers.  Thanks for your kindness, Soooz.

Suzannah Burke has written TWO best-selling non-fiction books under her pen name, Stacey Danson.

They are gut-wrenching and powerful books about her experience as an abused child. Find out why both  Empty Chairs and its sequel, Faint Echoes of Laughter remain top sellers.

Montreal Book Signing, Remembrance, and Thanks

I’m on a train headed back to Toronto as I write this.

I had my book signing in Montreal a couple of days ago.  The next day, I paid respects to my  father and his father at Mount Royal Cemetery.

My grandfather was a carpenter who inspired strength of body and mind. He taught me to wield a hammer and use power tools before the age of ten. It didn’t matter that I was a girl. My dad taught me many things, and one of the most important: humility—a quality I hold close to my heart.

They helped shape the woman I am today, and it’s a sad reminder they are gone when I can no longer share the milestones of my life with them.

One man, however, who is not gone is Mr. Joe Hackett, aka Jersey Joe, aka Tyrunn. He was my high school teacher for whom I wrote my first erotic story. Joe came to my book signing with a copy of Fall into Winter in hand—and his written critique in the margins. He even graded each of my stories! I have great respect for Joe’s opinion both as a teacher and a man, and I couldn’t have wished for a better response from him. Thank you, Mr. Hackett, (one of these days you’ll just be “Joe”) for always being you. Even when I was fifteen, I knew you were special.

Big thanks to Marie-Claire and Bernard for opening your store and hearts to me. Visit Odyssey Books the next time you’re in Montréal—it’s a true landmark.

Merci à Isabelle Maher  for your article about me in Le Journal de Montréal, and my friend, Mike Strobel of the Toronto Sun for making the introduction.  Also, my gratitude to Hotel Gault and its staff. I have stayed in many places in Montréal, but this was by far, the best service I’ve ever encountered. It’s a lovely home away from home.

I was thrilled that Casey Ryan was able to come to my signing. He’s the talented podcaster behind The Cutting Room Floor who interviewed me back in July. So great to finally meet you!

To my friends—old and new, your presence meant the world to me. And last, but not least, a special hug to my mother who came and bought a copy of my book.

Announcement: Book Signing in Montreal – Aug. 5th

As many of you already know, I’m now in Montreal, my hometown. I’m here to visit my mother which I always do in the summer, and this year, I’ve taken the opportunity to arrange a book signing as well.

Odyssey Books  is hosting the event.  I love bookstores, especially independently owned ones, and Odyssey has been around since 1986. Its proprietors are Marie-Claire Baillargeon and Bernard Wolf. I’m really looking forward to meeting them both.  Visit and LIKE their Facebook page, won’t you?

Book Trailer for Fall into Winter

I’d like to officially introduce my book trailer for Fall into Winter.  Yes, I do things a little backwards. My book launched in February, and it would’ve made sense to have one sooner, but I am SOOO happy I waited. Why? Because I connected with the über talented Rebecca Treadway.  She is an author of horror fiction, but she’s also an amazing artist, and she designed my trailer. I don’t want to tell you too much about her because she will be interviewed within the next few months on my INSIDE THE AUTHOR’S MIND series.

Until then, check out my video and Rebecca’s website, (www.atrtink.com).  She’s currently updating it and will have more content soon.

Hire this woman for your next book trailer or book cover! She’s professional, artistic, and has a keen eye for what works.

Enjoy,

eden

Book Launch of Fall into Winter

I’ve written daily in a journal since my teens and have destroyed all my diaries from that period of my life—literally burned them. I recall what instigated the bonfire. I was leaving Montreal for Toronto—moving to a new city for university, and I had convinced myself I didn’t want to carry my diaries with me—seven small books that wouldn’t have taken up much space in my luggage.

Only years later, did I realize it was the fear of discovery that made me destroy them, the fear that someone, for whatever reason, could steal, of all things, my journals. I must’ve had delusions of grandeur. No one would’ve been interested in the crap I wrote as a teenager: daily angst-ridden reflections involving crushes on male teachers; musings on my directionless career goals; and of course, sexual fantasies that spanned the normal to the “deviant,” or at least, what I considered deviant back then.

This may read like an odd introduction to an article about my book launch, but bear with me. In the past month, likely in concert with lack of sleep, (I’ve not had more than five hours of continuous sleep since early January), I’ve neglected writing daily in my journal. Some days, I’ve had to catch up on almost a week’s worth of events. I’d rack my brain to try and remember what I did, often looking to Ramone to fill in the blanks.

Lack of sleep and fear of discovery—a deadly combination for me. It’s great to publish a book, but now, I had to sell it. Though promotion wasn’t something I enjoyed doing, the end result was if I did it well, my book would get into the hands of readers, and that’s what I wanted, right? Of course it was, but that meant they could read my innermost thoughts, my deviant sexual fantasies. Somehow that adolescent angst came rushing back, at least for a brief time.

I’m not a teenager anymore, and I no longer burn books. When I decided to become a writer, I knew I didn’t want to keep my thoughts to myself anymore. Considering I sold out at my very first book launch, I’d say I’m cautiously optimistic about my future as an author.

Below are highlights of the event:

  • A strange looking “bag lady” wanders the store shortly after we arrive to set up. She’s mysteriously shrouded in an oversized, black coat. Ramone is concerned she’s there to steal the booze.
  • She turns out to be one of my best friends who has taken the bus in from Montreal to surprise me! Janet H’s arrival sets the tone for the evening, as my biggest fear all along has been that no one will show up. In the end, my RSVPs were accurate — I had attendance of just under 100 people.
  • An impromptu book signing for a few early birds escalates to a line-up of people who seem to show up all at once.
  • I sign books for about an hour before taking a break.
  • Ben introduces me, and his dry wit is peppered with comedic timing. He has the crowd roaring with laughter.
  • My speech is tame compared to Ben’s, its goal to provide thanks to those who have helped me. As I asked for the indulgence of my guests that night, I ask it of you here as well:

- To Ben McNally Books – specifically to Ben for creating a beautiful bookstore, and having the generosity of spirit to take a chance on a first-time author.

- To John P – PR man extraordinaire and mentor who helped to “brand” me, and to his lovely wife, Alex, who attended in his absence to be my crutch.

- To Alexa Clark – social entrepreneur, author, and creator of the CheapEats Restaurant Guide Series. Her ability to connect me to the right people was immensely helpful, but even more important was the confidence she instilled in me to market myself properly.

- To Betty Dworatschek – legal professional by day, and owner of Metal Queen Management by night. Her connections in the music industry are boundless, and she taught me how to use her promotional techniques for planning my own event.

- To Mike Strobel – because he gave me some major press through his article in the Toronto Sun, and though he may not think I’m a bad girl, he certainly knows they sell.

- To Mae L – because she’s my oldest friend and has been there through all the ups and downs and is still around after all these years.

- To Janet H – because she took a 6-hour bus ride to attend my 2-hour event, leaving behind her husband, 3 kids, and a dog only to have to return later that night.

- To Jimmy Y – because he’s my brother, and he’s always given me unconditional support no matter what I’ve done.

- To all who were in attendance or had someone purchase a book on their behalf – because of your constant support, my accomplishments do not seem hollow.

- And finally, to my husband, Ramone – not only does he make it possible for me to write, he makes it meaningful and worthwhile.

I’d also like to acknowledge the generous donations from:

Compri Food Services

The food was amazing and the service—stellar.

Compri has been catering to corporate and social clients in and around the Toronto area since 1989. Whether it’s a group of ten, or ten thousand, consider Compri for your next affair.

Good for Her

Vibrators, free porn, and massage oil were just a few of the gifts donated by Good for Her, a Toronto erotic boutique that carries high quality sex toys, books, and DVDs. They also conduct educational workshops for men, women, and couples.

It was a lovely book launch, and I’m thrilled to have shared it with so many people. The photos and videos  are now posted, and they tell the rest of the evening’s events.

I’m a firm believer that you cannot say “Thank you,” too many times, so I’ll say it again. Thank you to everyone who took time out of their busy days to come and see me, buy a book or two, and provide such encouraging words. You’ve made this one of the most memorable times of my life.

For those who were not able to buy a book—Ben now has more books in stock. If you were unable to get your book signed, I would be more than happy to do it. Send me an e-mail and we can arrange to meet for a coffee.

I really do need to get out of the house more often!

Stay sexy,

My Sincerest Thanks

My first book launch is officially behind me, and it was overwhelming in the most wonderful way.

I want to give thanks to everyone who attended, and I apologize if we did not have a chance to talk personally. To the very best of my ability, I will connect with each of you individually over the next few days.

I will also go over pictures and post them to my site so you can see yourselves and other friends, and I can share the experience with my readers who were not able to attend.

It is truly the greatest honor to have friends who support your dreams, and I am the luckiest woman in the world for it.

Thank you all so much from the deepest, warmest part of my heart.

Eden
