Charles Bronson plays Harmonica in – Once Upon a Time in the West

The sound of the harmonica follows Charles Bronson’s character in the film, Once Upon a Time in the West.

His character is also known as “Harmonica.”

Sincere thanks to author friend, Tim Dittmer who alerted me to this terrific film. He knows I’ve been taking harmonica lessons over the past months, and this haunting theme is a great example of what the instrument can do, so I’m learning it. C harp, bend on the 6 hole draw, not easy. ;)

Watch this incredible scene from the film on Youtube. I don’t like guns, but I love old Westerns and gunfights … and of course, Charles Bronson.

The music is by Italian composer, Ennio Morricone.

  1. That’s too good, Eden. Bronson’s Harmonica role made me think of you, of course, but I didn’t realize you were a fan of his at the time.

It will take some willpower on my part to not watch this one again right now. :-)

    • Go figure, Tim! The film has a great cast, I wouldn’t blame you for watching it again. I might pick up a few of Sergio Leone’s films myself.
Thanks again for giving me the idea for today’s post!

  2. It’s been awhile since I’ve seen that one!

    I love Morricone’s music.

  3. I am a fan of Ennio Morricone’s film scores, particularly the title track from “Once Upon a Time in The West”. I am also an avid fan of the Spaghetti Westerns, starting with my first, “The Good, The Bad and The Ugly”, which I took my first steady girlfriend to see in 1968 … and the sequels. Bronson, like Eastwood, is Mr Cool personified. The only thing about those films is the dubbing was never brilliant. I don’t know whether Bronson could actually play the ‘harp’ but he sure wasn’t in that famous clip. :)

  4. Sequels … not! The Good The Bad and The Ugly was the third in the series, I think. Nonetheless, seminal movies.

    • Thanks for commenting, John — twice. Yes, Bronson was not playing in the movie that I know of, and certainly not in the scene I posted. I think he was cool, but not THAT cool! I loved The Good The Bad and The Ugly too.

  6. Remember the scene well! A ‘mean’ harmonica, CB played. Loved it. xox

Yeh, fistful of dollars! Then for a few dollars more and finally, The good the bad and the ugly, anyone want to buy some water melons? Name that film!

  8. Hmm… I’m guessing it’s not from the “Death Wish” series. Hint?
